On Friday 17th November, 2017 we are proud to be hosting the amazing Mawdesley Red Admiral Band in St. Peter’s Church.
This incredible Music Academy was started 3 years ago with just 15 members, and now they have around 75 people involved.

The idea was to give people the opportunity to learn how to play brass instruments, and this has proved to be so popular that people of all ages and from all backgrounds have taken the opportunity to learn in a relaxed and happy atmosphere. The instruments are provided by the Red Admirals for a nominal amount per week, and the tuition from professional musicians is given to them free of charge. They have whole families taking part, sometimes with 3 generations, age is no barrier to learning with the Red Admiral Academy.

The Academy is a non profit making organisation and all money raised by them and for them is put straight back into the band to enable them to purchase more and better instruments for the members.

There are now 4 bandsThe Starter Band for people who are new to playing an instrument, the Beginner Band, and then the Training Band. When they have shown they are ready for the next big step they go into The Red Admiral Band itself. The main band, and Wow, what a sound they can make !

We are St. Peter’s Church are excited about supporting this Academy.   They are giving people of all ages in our community a chance to take part in something really worthwhile.   It is especially beneficial to the young people in our community, giving them an interest and a challenge to learn something other than academic work at school. They also get the opportunity to play for various functions and get the satisfaction of knowing they are giving the people who come to see them a great deal of pleasure.

The Academy is now going into schools and teaching the pupils in school how to play brass instruments and how to work together as a group.

Some members of the Academy are going on to Music College and are looking at becoming professional musicians in their own right, and this is all down to the work and encouragement of the Red Admiral Music Academy.

The Red Admiral Music Academy under 16’s were crowned the Junior Brass Band Entertainment Champions of Great Britain for 2017 and more recently the Academy was awarded the sum of £25,000. by the One Life Foundation in recognition of it’s work for the community.
In this day and age we should support people who try to help others, especially our young people. There is so much social media these days, this Academy should be supported by us all as they are opening up a new world to people.  They should be congratulated by us all.

Please come along on Friday 17th November to support the Red Admiral Band and see for yourself how good they are !  You will not be disappointed, and we will all be doing our little bit to help them to carry on with their very worthwhile work.

Please come along and join us. Tickets are available from Mark Cobham in the Band, Elaine Marsh at St. Peter’s Church (07739343696) and from The Spar shop in Mawdesley Village.
Priced £6 for adults and 4 for children. The proceeds of the concert are being split between the Band and the church.
