I think most of us welcome 2026 with hope and uncertainty. Hope perhaps for a better year than the last in terms of our own or loved ones health, financial worries, relationship difficulties, employment concerns and uncertainty because we are not necessarily in control of how life pans out. Perhaps we are excited for the prospects and joyous events on the horizon and are metaphorically putting on our roller skates to get the year underway at speed. However we have dipped our toes in to the new year, whatever resolutions have been made and already fallen by the wayside…or about to do so, the Gospel of John reminds us that we don’t enter this new year with it’s unwritten adventure alone. We have just celebrated the incarnation in the birth of Jesus; God bringing heaven to earth and earth to heaven as he ‘moved into our neighbourhood’. We are understood, heard, loved, wanted, delighted in, held, comforted, rejoiced over, we don’t cross into this new year alone. Emmanuel -God with us goes with us. May our confidence not be in the new year, but in Jesus, who stays the same, yesterday, today and forever. With blessings and hope for 2026 Revd Tracy
