Christmas officially finishes with Candlemas / the Presentation of Jesus at the Temple on 2nd February, we will be celebrating this festival in church on Sunday, then can you believe it, we are only 17 days away from the beginning of the season on Lent. A significant period of time where we look again at our lives and make adjustments to our way of living; our thinking, our actions, our behaviour, how we speak to others and change the world around us as we move to improve our relationship with God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit and to honestly inspect ourselves to check our Jesus compass is true and straight. Are we living as Christ like children of God? Are we doing what Jesus would do in our daily lives? Very important questions that Lent gives us the opportunity and the space to take time to reflect upon and do something about. Sometimes it’s hard to know where to begin in looking at our lives and when we begin we can often find that we need help in bringing change. There’s no instant fix as change takes time and perseverance but there are two things you may find helpful and want to take part in through Lent. Firstly, we have ordered the Dioceses’ Lent Devotional books, similar to the Advent books many of you were very positive about. Please pick one up when they appear, there are large print copies too. Secondly, I will be running Bishop Philip’s Lent Course called, Knowing Jesus, one session a week over 5 weeks. The course looks at five stories from the book of Acts through two lenses, ‘Knowing about Jesus’, what we learn from the passage about who Jesus is, and ‘Knowing Jesus’, having understood more about who he is, how will it change our lives to be in a personal relationship with him? Whether you are just wanting to know more about who Jesus is and haven’t made a commitment to follow him or you are a seasoned follower, the course is suitable for everyone to join in with and I look forward to journeying through Lent with you.
Lent Course begins: Wednesday 25th February for 5 weeks. 7pm -8:30pm St Michael’s Church Vestry.
