Who knew that grey squirrels like to eat lead? We didn’t until we suffered major leaks in the roof over our Clergy Vestry caused by squirrels chewing through the lead flashing – apparently, they like the taste and it is soft enough for them to get their sharp teeth into!
The good news is that thanks to an £8500 grant from National Churches Trust and the National Heritage Fund we have been able to sort out the leaks and replace the damaged flashing so that our Clergy won’t get wet when it rains.
We are grateful to our specialist heritage contractors Lloyd and Smith of Oldham and our Architect Rebecca Grimshaw for their excellent work on this project that helps to protect our Grade II* listed Church for the future.
Sadly, we will need to undertake a major project to replace the rest of the roof in the next few years when sufficient grants can be obtained, but for now the Vestry is puddle free!
